PETER MORAN RIP
BARLA have become aware of the passing of Peter Moran of an illness aged 76.
Peter a stalwart of Wigan St Patricks ARLFC and leading figure setting up their youth section, was a former member of BARLA (British Amateur Rugby League Association) for 4/5yrs years, during his tenure was appointed as the BARLA President, a member of the Executive Board of BARLA and also represented the organisation on overseas tours to the Southern Hemisphere.
Peter was also present when Queen Elizabeth 11 attended opened the BARLA Offices in 1990.
Peter was the long serving President of the National Conference League and involved with that league for over thirty years and still attended local NCL games.
Peter was also a member of the RFL Community Board.
BARLA Chair Sue Taylor MBE said,
“I was aware of Peter prior to becoming involved with BARLA and becoming the chair of the organisation and got to know him through being a member of the RFL Community Board. He fought for the community game as a whole whilst on the Board and treated me respectively and a true gentleman.
“I last met him at the RFL’s Presidents Ball and had a good chat with him about the community game which he was passionate about.
“Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time.”
